Ops subDAO Update and Finance Review 2025

2025 Finance Overview

Key Expense Categories

The four largest expenditure categories for 2025 were:

  • 56% – Indexer (AWS, compliance, 24/7)
  • 22% – Contributors
  • 12% – Professional Services (legal, customer support)
  • 5% – IT Infrastructure

The DOS spend stayed constant during 2025 while expanding our services. This was achieved through continuous spending reviews, active rightsizing of services, in-housing expensive outsourced tasks, and reducing team size.

Spending Trends and Forecast

In 2026, the DOS has significantly reduced its footprint and monthly spend without reducing scope. Key initiatives that have enabled us to cut roughly $120k monthly include:

  • In-housing the indexer and 24/7 on-call
  • Reduction in force from six to four people
  • Rightsizing AWS infrastructure

Current Team

  • Dimitar: Head of Technology
  • Rudi: Tech Team Lead
  • Ben: Senior QA Engineer
  • Valentin: General Manager

2026 Plans

The DOS team is preparing to further professionalize infrastructure operations and deepen integration into the dYdX Chain stack. The focus is on bringing as much as possible in-house to improve cost efficiency.

DOF Directors Update

In January, two of the five DOF Directors resigned: Joanna Pope and Areta.io. The entire Ops subDAO team thanks them for their hard work and contributions, particularly Joanna Pope, who was instrumental in getting the subDAO off the ground.

DOF Supervisor Update

Alongside the Directors, Joseph Axisa (the supervisor) has also resigned. This role is currently being filled by our law firm, TTA. We thank Joseph for his contributions to the subDAO and the broader dYdX community, and for being a valuable contrarian voice when needed.
